Rutherford Hill Petit Verdot
There are very few acres of Petit Verdot in the Napa Valley, so bottlings are rare. Rutherford Hill is fortunate to have access to Petit Verdot from Stagecoach Vineyards, which is grown more than 1,000 feet above the valley floor. Long considered a classic Bordeaux style varietal, but used primarily as a blending component we have created a stand-alone Petit Verdot that stands up to the most discriminating taste. Petit Verdot is known for its aromatics and structure and our winemaker enjoys the creative challenge involved in making a single varietal wine from this grape.
Tasting Notes: Garnet in color, this wine provides aromas of boysenberry, black cherry, roasted walnuts with hints of vanilla and violet. It is well balanced, with a great mouthfeel and fantastic oak integration. Bright on the palate, with very intense flavors and notes of dark fruit and cassis. The substantial tannins give the wine a great, prolonged finish.
